I am continually fascinated by St. Paul Road, which wanders back deep into the hills of southwestern St. Louis County. In particular, right at this horribly dangerous curve (the road is 1.5 lanes wide here), there is this cluster of log cabins, barns and this stone spring or ice house. Who owned this property originally? The Pitzmann map, from 1868, lists the owner as “Chr. Bakemeier.” Who was he? Why have so many log buildings survived in this one place?
