Map of West Brentmoor, Forest Ridge and Brentmoor Park, 1900-1910, Missouri History Museum, Lib364.

I’ve looked at the various private streets west of Big Bend before (here’s a cool map of Forest Ridge and Brentmoor Park) in Clayton, but now let’s head east until Wydown Boulevard terminates in the City of St. Louis.

Laid out in 1909, the subdivision takes up land that was once the western side of the 1904 World’s Fair. North of Wydown was named Skinker Heights, it is perhaps one of the less known of Julius Pitzman’s designs (it is worth noting that the famous Prussian surveyor did hundreds of “boring” streets in addition to the famous ones).

These houses are all in Skinker Heights, and they are in the typical styles of the time, the George Revival and the Tudor Revival.

This gray paint is not historically accurate.

Some of the most famous architects, including Klipstein and Rathmann, as well as Maritz and Young, were active in this neighborhood.
